It uses the web as a platform which will allow almost all the web based application to work automatically and any new applications can be created using the developers favorite web technologies. Moreover the chrome OS will work on any browser based on Windows, Mac or Linux which will provide a largest platform for the developers. Google has redesigned the security architecture having the users no fear on viruses, malware and other security threats. There are no normal application and there is no need for installing and updating any software. Its simply a browser and most exciting fact is that it boots in 7 seconds.

Users can perform all regular tasks like playing games, music, reading and editing of documents. All the files created in the OS will be automatically synced and saved on Google’s server which will facilitate online back up and retrieval of data will happen in a matter of seconds. Most of the programs will function online and a very minimal applications will be available offline. Google said that the users can install the operating system in a second portable system initially, but more memory intensive tasks can be done only using a powerful machine. They have aimed to boost up the speed of the OS by designing it for specific hardware and will run only on computers using solid state drives, instead of normal hard drives. Google aims to hand shake with many OEMs to release a variety of notebooks running on both X86 and ARM chips.

The official announcement has created more expectations in the market of operating systems, especially for some one to go after Microsoft. Responding to the question about the launch of chrome OS, Mr. Gates said that the browser OS can be of no match to a real OS since we have most of our work doing offline. Answering for the same Mr. Ballmer said that we do not need a operating system now and no one knows what this thing is?

Almost all the open source developers are excited to work with an operating system which can react more faster than anything else. Its evident that the complete OS can run more efficiently and support only the online users. Running the world’s fastest operating system also requires a faster Internet connection. But this also shows that future computing can only be via the Internet.
